What makes a good video game?
A game poster is going to be observed differently by people who have differing passions when it comes to video game playing. There are no clear standards to determine what comprises a “good” game. So the challenge to a game designer drawing a poster about a game should incorporate different elements. I believe there are four elements that should be captured to interest an observer: graphics, storyline, gameplay, and, most importantly, the expression of the passion of the game developer.
Most observers will first focus on the center of my poster. Here I have drawn a little man jumping from a pixel to a larger character to represent the evolutionary steps in graphic development.
At the bottom of my poster, I have drawn a man with a sword and shield to fight monsters (represented by a peaceful-looking slime who changes into a monster). In this section, I want to represent the story content of the game. Some players might love to play a game just to embrace the story it portrays. Many traditional games offer participants to take on various roles in the game to experience the game from different perspectives.
On the top portion of my poster, I have drawn a man playing soccer. In this section, I want to use a character involved in playing a game. Some observers of my poster may want the challenge of playing a game. Neither the storyline nor the actual graphics themselves would interest them; they might just want to play to be challenged.
Each section of my poster is different to appeal to the largest customer audience as they might have unique interests in playing my video game.
As a backdrop to my poster, I have drawn a big heart to represent the most crucial part of game design which to me is the enthusiasm of the game developer. If the developer genuinely loves the game they have designed, this passion and creativity will effortlessly flow from the heart and result in a game that will be appreciated by all players. A great game poster is the first opportunity to gain potential player interest.
